Women Must Begin to Exercise Their Common Sense

 

Just google “sexual assault in a park” and you will get numerous news articles of incidents just like that.  More often than not, it’s a young female that is the victim of such assaults. My mind is always boggled when I read of young girls exercising in parks alone, many times at night in the city.

I used to live in a town we would often refer to as “Mayberry”. Everybody knew everybody and everybody was related. I felt pretty safe there, with the exception of a couple of incidents, but I never would have gone to our local park to exercise alone after dark. I love freedom and I am all about having the right to be able to do what you please within the bounds of the law. But my goodness, women need to quit having the mentality that “it can’t or won’t happen to me”. It’s really time we start exercising, not just or bodies, but our common sense when it comes to our safety and security. We need to stop putting ourselves in places and situations where we can become another sexual assault statistic.

Some precautions women need to take when they want to exercise outdoors:

  1. Walk or jog with a friend or spouse. It’s way more fun to have a partner to exercise with.
  2. Go in the day time and if you must go alone, always let someone know where you will be and what you will be doing.
  3. Always be aware of your surroundings.
  4. Don’t exercise with headphones on.
  5. Carry some form of protection product with you at all times.
